The Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, spans an area of 30,000 square kilometers from the north of Tanzania to the south of Kenya. The best time to visit for safaris in Tanzania is from December to February and from July to September. During the long rainy season from March to May, animals retreat to the Ndutu area in the south of the Serengeti. From mid-July, you have perfect conditions for observing wildlife. This is when the Great Migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras begins. During the river crossings at the Grumeti River, you may also have the chance to see crocodiles coming out of their hiding places to catch their prey.
From September onwards, most of the herd moves on to the neighboring Masai Mara in Kenya.
